Zita Swoon

Zita Swoon is born in the 90’s, in Antwerp, Belgium. Along the river and close to the port there was a smoky small bar where buskers from Antwerp, Scotland, Ireland and Australia met other musicians to play and earn a bit of money. This was the headquarters of Stef Kamil Carlens.

Stef Kamil Carlens is the artistic director; author, composer, singer and instrumentalist.
His interest goes to the page he has just written and to the one he will write tomorrow, pen dipped in the English or French language. On his road, folk and blues and even seeking eighties disco. He leaps between past and future with no real regularity kept in mind. This culminates into multi-angled music going from absurd funk to the tradition of singer-songwriters.

Close to Stef Kamil Carlens at the birth of the band, there is Aarich Jespers at the drumsticks, he is also graphic designer and involved in the artwork of the group.

Zita Swoon is a cosmopolitan tribe. Each member offering what he is and became on his travel, fed by the wealth of presents that he got in exchange. The artistic collaborations move from a stage performance to a concert.

The concerts are on stage, in the middle of the public or on location. They are incandescent with physical engagement, glowing groove or intimate moments. The stage performances are hybrid formats, snapshots in time, tracks in a continuous flow. The stage is a laboratory that results in new songs, new instrumental compositions and dance appearances. The energy of the music in symbiosis with the visual language of dance forms a new unity.

The performances are not held in one single mental place. In the same drive also the spectator is expected to travel along in that nomadic way.
